The seminar, set for Wednesday afternoon at the district office's main auditorium, will walk residents through legal tax-saving strategies covering capital gains, inheritance and gift taxes.
Songpa-gu in Seoul will hold a tax seminar Wednesday titled "Sale vs. Inheritance and Gift: Tax-Saving Strategies," aimed at helping residents navigate the growing burden of real estate-related taxes amid shifting market conditions and policy changes.
The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday in the main auditorium on the fourth floor of the district office. It comes as public interest in capital gains tax and inheritance and gift taxes has surged following recent changes to real estate policy, and is designed to help residents understand the evolving tax landscape and get answers to complex tax questions.
The seminar is the fifth edition since its inaugural run in 2023 and has drawn strong attendance and satisfaction each year by offering practical tax information. This year's session focuses on the theme of "Sell or give away?" — walking participants through tax-saving strategies they need to know when disposing of real estate or transferring assets, using real-world case studies to keep the content accessible.
The session will be led by Lee Jang-won, a certified tax accountant and head of Rich Tax Corporation who also runs a YouTube channel. He will cover capital gains, inheritance and gift taxes — topics that come up most frequently in the district's free tax consultation service — using actual cases and clear explanations of tax-saving options. A question-and-answer session will follow the lecture to address individual queries from attendees.
The seminar runs approximately two hours and is free and open to all Songpa-gu residents. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis through the Songpa-gu website.
Songpa-gu District Mayor Seo Gang-seok said the transfer, inheritance and gifting of real estate are decisions with major implications for residents' finances and futures, but that many struggle with the complexity of tax law. "I hope this seminar gives residents a clearer understanding of tax rules so they can make sound decisions," Seo said. "We will continue to deliver hands-on tax support services that stay close to the community."
