Hanam is accepting proposals and instructor applications for its 2027 municipal library reading culture programs, covering everything from reading and writing to AI skills and hands-on creative projects.

The city announced Monday that it is soliciting program proposals and instructors for its municipal libraries next year, aiming to reflect residents' diverse cultural and educational needs while highlighting each library's distinct character.

Program categories include literacy and reading education, AI skills, humanities, foreign languages, multicultural programs, makerspace activities and digital literacy.

In the literacy and reading category, the city is seeking proposals for activities such as book play, creative writing, reading instruction, bibliotherapy and literacy improvement — programs designed to help residents build a closer relationship with books and strengthen their reading and writing abilities. The city also plans to identify professional instructors to lead a "literacy classroom" next year, helping residents develop their capacity to read, comprehend and express themselves.

In the AI category, the city is looking for courses on how to use artificial intelligence as well as programs that blend AI with the humanities. The humanities category will cover literature, history, philosophy and the arts. English picture books and original-text reading courses, along with multicultural programs that foster cross-cultural understanding and communication, are also eligible.

Hands-on creative and digital programs are also being sought. Proposals may include coding, 3D printing, 3D pen use, sewing and webtoon tablet art, as well as computer, iMac and smartphone literacy courses, and immersive storytelling using large-format screens.

Programs that draw on Hanam's local identity are also highlighted. The city is accepting proposals for a "Hanam Archive" initiative — writing poetry or children's stories set in Hanam or capturing the city's urban landscape through illustration — as well as programs on carbon neutrality, environmental education and career guidance. Local experts will receive bonus points in the selection process, with preference given to programs that demonstrate a deep understanding of and expertise in the region.

Last year, 214 program proposals were submitted, of which 114 were selected. The city plans to accept a broad range of proposals again this year — spanning reading, AI, creative work and local documentation — to expand the variety of programs available to residents at its libraries.

Applications are open from 9 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Nov. 2. Submissions can be made by email to the relevant coordinator or in person at Misa Library. Full details on eligible categories and required documents are available on the Hanam city government and Hanam Municipal Library websites.

Submitted proposals will go through a two-stage review — an initial document screening for eligibility and program suitability, followed by a qualitative evaluation — with selections made in order of total score. Results will be sent by individual email and text message starting Nov. 23, and selected programs will be assigned to specific libraries through consultations with library staff to best match each library's character.

"I hope people will propose fresh, creative programs that allow residents to do more than just read at the library — to learn new knowledge and gain diverse experiences," Hanam Mayor Lee Hyeon-jae said. "We look forward to broad interest and participation from those with expertise across many fields, including reading, the humanities, AI, creative work and local documentation."
