The 35th Sangju Citizens' Health Walking Festival, organized by the Sangju Sangmaek Association in North Gyeongsang Province, drew more than 1,000 residents Saturday at the outdoor music stage of Bukcheon Citizens' Park.
Now in its 35th year, the annual event is held each September or October to promote residents' health and community unity.
Participants walked an approximately 2.7-kilometer course that began in front of the outdoor music stage at Bukcheon Citizens' Park and wound past the pedestrian bridge near Useok Girls' High School, along the Bukcheon walking trail, across Bukcheon Bridge and past the courthouse before returning to the park.
Residents joined family members, friends and neighbors to enjoy the autumn scenery of Sangju, tending to their health and connecting with one another.
Sangju Mayor An Jae-min said walking is "one of the best and most accessible ways for anyone to stay healthy," adding that he hoped Monday's event would serve as a meaningful occasion for residents to reflect on the value of good health and enjoy time together.
