Incheon's Gaehangjeong night festival has established itself as the city's signature nighttime cultural event.

The "2026 Incheon Gaehangjeong National Heritage Night," hosted by Jeomulpo-gu, drew a cumulative 178,000 visitors over three days from Oct. 9 to 11 in the Gaehangjeong area of Incheon, the district announced Friday.

Daily attendance figures showed 63,000 visitors on opening day, Oct. 9, followed by 62,000 on Saturday and 53,000 on Sunday.

This year's festival — the first since the newly unified Jeomulpo-gu was launched — was held under the slogan "People and Heritage Who Lived Through Incheon's Open Port Era," reinterpreting the modern historical figures and national heritage of the port-opening period as nighttime cultural content.

The program was organized around eight nighttime themes covering storytelling, night scenery, walking routes, history, illuminated heritage sites, a night market, street food and overnight experiences.

Particularly popular was the "illuminated heritage" theme, which opened 13 national heritage facilities — including the Incheon Open Port Museum — free of charge after dark, drawing 47,170 visitors over the three days.

The main experiential program, a guided storytelling walking tour of modern-era architecture led by docents, sold out all 600 spots through a combination of advance reservations and on-site sign-ups.

Street performances by actors in period costumes, moonlit outdoor concerts, an "Incheon Easy" app stamp tour completed by 820 participants, and a fringe street performance series further animated the Gaehangjeong district throughout the festival.

A flea market and night market set up at the venue drew foot traffic that spilled into the surrounding Gaehangjeong alley commercial district, contributing to the local economy.

"Building on this year's results and the support of residents, we will develop the Gaehangjeong night festival into an even more advanced signature nighttime cultural event for the region," Jeomulpo-gu District Mayor Kim Chan-jin said.

The event was co-hosted by the Cultural Heritage Administration and Jeomulpo-gu, organized by the Incheon Tourism Organization and supported by Incheon Metropolitan City.
