A political action committee formed by employees of AI company Anthropic donated more than $255,000 to both major US political parties in the third quarter, The Hill reported Thursday (local time).

The PAC spent more than $255,000 in the quarter, directing $130,000 to Republican-aligned recipients and $125,500 to Democratic-aligned ones. Recipients included the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and various PACs affiliated with both parties.

On the Republican side, donations went to Sens. Mike Rounds, Kevin Cramer, Jon Husted and Ashley Moody, as well as Reps. Tom Emmer and Brian Mast. Democratic recipients included Sens. Adam Schiff, Mark Kelly, Alex Padilla, Chris Coons and Mark Warner.

Under federal law, individuals may contribute up to $5,000 per year to a PAC, and all donations must be disclosed through filings with the Federal Election Commission.

Other technology companies — including Nvidia, Google, Microsoft and Amazon — operate similar employee-funded PACs.

Anthropic cannot contribute corporate funds directly to an employee-funded PAC, but it does channel company money into separate political activities. This year, Anthropic contributed $40 million to Public First Action, an organization that supports stronger AI safety measures.
