Q3 net profit hits W31.7 trillion
Earnings up 68.7% year-on-year, beating forecasts
Sales also reach all-time high at W62.2 trillion
Strong AI chip demand drives record run
Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest contract chipmaker, posted a record net profit for the sixth consecutive quarter, driven by surging demand for AI chips. Both sales and net profit exceeded market expectations, confirming that the global AI investment boom is translating into real gains for the semiconductor industry.
TSMC announced Thursday (local time) that its third-quarter net profit rose 68.7 percent year-on-year to 763.1 billion New Taiwan dollars ($23.3 billion), according to Reuters and AFP.
The result beat the market consensus of 746.3 billion New Taiwan dollars compiled by the London Stock Exchange Group by roughly 2.3 percent, extending TSMC's streak of quarterly net profit records to six straight quarters.
Sales also hit an all-time high. TSMC's third-quarter revenue, which the company disclosed Oct. 8, came in at 1.49 trillion New Taiwan dollars, up about 50 percent from a year earlier.
TSMC's earnings have climbed sharply as global technology giants ramp up investment in AI infrastructure, fueling demand for the advanced chips it produces. The company is the primary foundry supplier of cutting-edge semiconductors to major technology firms including Nvidia and Apple.
Analysts say TSMC is a key beneficiary of sustained demand for high-performance chips needed to build AI data centers, given its commanding lead in advanced process technology.
The results underscore how the global surge in AI investment is generating tangible revenue and profit growth across the semiconductor industry.
