Seoul Museum of Art in Jongno-gu, Seoul, is hosting "I Want to Paint the Inner World," a large memorial exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of Im Jik-soon's death, through Feb. 14, 2027. The special exhibition centers on around 80 oil paintings and also presents works in a range of other media, including drawings, watercolors and prints. Alongside this, more than 30 personal effects are on display, among them the easel, palette, brushes and paints Im used during his lifetime, as well as furniture and everyday objects.
The exhibition is the largest ever mounted to mark the anniversary of Im's death. It is particularly significant in that visitors can explore not only finished paintings but also drawings that reveal the artist's thinking, perspective and compositional process. The show is also expected to draw renewed attention to the vast body of drawings Im left behind, highlighting the need for deeper research into them and for dedicated drawing exhibitions.
