The National Nakdong River Biological Resources Center announced Thursday it is accepting submissions for its 3rd Biology Experience Teaching Kit Development Contest through Nov. 9, seeking ideas for educational materials for use in biology and environmental education settings.
Eligible submissions must address topics related to biology and the environment — including biodiversity, ecosystem conservation, the climate crisis and carbon neutrality — and must take the form of hands-on teaching kits that learners can directly engage with, manipulate or assemble.
The contest is open to anyone with an interest in biology and environmental education. Applicants must submit a kit description and a teaching and learning guide through the contest's official website before the deadline.
Submitted entries will be evaluated on suitability, creativity, completeness and practicality, with four winning works selected to share a total prize pool of 10 million won ($7,460).
The grand prize winner will receive the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy minister's award along with 5 million won in prize money, while the excellence award winner will receive the center director's award and 3 million won. Two merit award winners will each receive the center director's award and 1 million won.
Yeo Jin-dong, head of the center's exhibition and education division, said he hopes the contest will turn fresh public ideas into teaching kits that can be used in biology and environmental education settings.
