Korea Forest Service holds 18th mayors and district mayors forestry seminar to chart regional forest policy
The launch of the ninth round of directly elected local governments has brought central and local authorities together to chart the future of regional forests.
The Korea Forest Service announced Wednesday that it held the 18th Forestry Seminar for Mayors and District Mayors at the National Arboretum in Sejong, under the theme "A Korea where people find happiness in forests — the Korea Forest Service and local governments together."
The Korea Forest Service has consistently held the seminar since 1999 to strengthen forest cooperation with local governments and share best practices in forest policy.
At the event, Korea Forest Service Commissioner Park Eun-sik presented a range of forest policies tailored to regional needs and highlighted successful local government initiatives — including a community co-prosperity program in Hamyang, South Gyeongsang Province, and efforts to combat pine wilt disease in Namhae, South Gyeongsang Province. The seminar also featured a session in which local governments presented policy recommendations to the commissioner, creating a forum for dialogue and cooperation.
"This seminar is not simply a venue where the Korea Forest Service explains policies and local governments receive them — it is a place where we together envision the forest policies our regions need," Park said. "Let us walk together as partners in forest policy on the journey toward a Korea where people find happiness in forests."
