Kyobo Life is moving beyond contract and coverage management to support the everyday health of its policyholders.

The insurer announced Wednesday that it had added a health activity program to its customer management service, known as the "Lifetime Care Service," starting Oct. 6.

The Lifetime Care Service has dedicated financial planners visit customers one to two times a year after they take out a policy, conducting regular check-ups on their contract details and coverage status. It also helps with customer information management, insurance claims support and verification of unclaimed benefits. Kyobo Life introduced the service in 2011 as the first of its kind in the industry. By the end of last year, cumulative users had surpassed 2.01 million. The service supports about 500,000 insurance claims annually, with average monthly claim support amounting to 48.5 billion won ($36.2 million).

With the new program, the service's scope expands from contract and coverage management into everyday health care. The aim is to go beyond financial protection against illness or accidents and help customers take a consistent, proactive interest in their health.

The health activity program works by having financial planners check on both a customer's health and coverage status during their regular visits. Planners provide personalized guidance on benefits that customers often overlook — such as premium discounts for non-smokers and those in good health, and health management bonuses that accumulate when customers complete medical check-ups or go accident-free — matched to the eligibility requirements of each product and system.

The service also delivers health information for disease prevention, covering the characteristics and management of chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and hyperlipidemia, age-specific check-up and vaccination guides, and tips for improving lifestyle habits. Customers are also informed about the health management and treatment support available through the "Kyobo Healthcare Service" based on their enrolled products and eligibility. That service, offered to Kyobo Life policyholders, includes medical consultations, appointment scheduling assistance and dedicated nurse accompaniment to hospital visits upon diagnosis of a major illness.

Kyobo Life has operated healthcare services for policyholders since 2001. In October last year, it became the first life insurer in the industry to establish a dedicated healthcare subsidiary. Since then, it has partnered with GS Retail and LG Uplus's budget mobile brand to extend health consultation services beyond policyholders to the general public.

Customers who consent to data collection will also receive personalized health reports. The reports use AI to analyze recent medical expense records and predict risk indices for serious diseases requiring attention, consolidating key health indicators in a single view. Customers can use the reports as a reference for improving their lifestyle habits or reviewing their coverage.

"The role of insurance is expanding beyond financial protection against illness and accidents to encompass customers' everyday health management," a Kyobo Life official said. "We will continue to use the Lifetime Care Service to consistently look after customers' health and coverage, and expand services that provide real, practical help even after a policy is taken out."
