Actor Choi Su-jong, 63, broke down in tears as he opened up about grief and regret over his late mother.
tvN released a preview clip Tuesday from its variety program "You Quiz on the Block" titled "A letter from Choi Su-jong's heart to his mother, always missed and longed for."
In the clip, Choi blamed himself for the harsh words he had spoken to her. "What hurt me most when my mother passed away wasn't what I had done — it was remembering the times I said something harsh to her," he said. "That made the pain so much deeper and brought even more tears."
He went on to express gratitude and longing. "Thank you for bringing me into this world," he said, his voice breaking. "I miss you and want to see you every day. That feeling will never change." He was unable to hold back his tears.
Addressing both of his late parents, Choi said, "I hope the two of you are living well in heaven, sharing all the words left unsaid, the grievances, and the gratitude. I will leave a good influence on this world. Thank you."
Choi lost his mother on Sept. 25. He took part in the "You Quiz on the Block" recording alongside his wife, actor Ha Hee-ra, 56, the day after the funeral.
Having stepped in front of the cameras while still deep in grief, Choi's candid words left a lasting impression on viewers.
The clip is a preview; the full episode airs Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. on tvN.
Choi made his debut in the 1987 KBS drama series "Sarangi Kkotpineun Namu." He went on to become one of South Korea's most beloved actors through a string of hit drama series, including "First Love," "Sons and Daughters," "Jealousy," "Hana Only One" and "Goryeo-Khitan War."
Choi and Ha married in 1993 and have a son and a daughter. The couple is widely regarded as one of the entertainment industry's most beloved pairs.
