Triplets born Sept. 28 under dedicated veterinary care
Public debut at Ppuppa Town set for Thursday
Everland will open a set of naturally born capybara triplets to the public starting Thursday, with plans to expand visitor engagement through online and in-person naming contests and other interactive programs.
The theme park said the triplets were born Sept. 28 to Dotom, a male capybara born in 2024, and his mate Dutum, a female of the same birth year.
Each of the three pups weighed about 1 kilogram at birth. Now more than two weeks old, they are in good health, nursing from their mother under the care of Everland's veterinary team and zookeepers.
Capybaras, which inhabit riverbanks and wetlands across South America, are the world's largest living rodents and have an average lifespan of about 10 years. They carry young for roughly four to five months and typically give birth to multiple offspring at once. Newborns arrive fully furred, with eyes open and able to walk almost immediately — a relatively advanced state of development compared with many other mammals.
The animals are also known for their rounded ears, blunt snouts and characteristically unhurried expressions and movements, qualities that have earned them a reputation as calming companions. Online, they have become popular for their easygoing interactions with other species — ducks, turtles and monkeys among them.
The triplets will be on view at Everland's Ppuppa Town starting Thursday. The park said it will monitor the pups' health and adjustment to their new surroundings and adjust public viewing hours and locations accordingly.
In addition, Everland plans to hold a naming contest capturing each triplet's individual personality, along with a range of online and in-person programs to celebrate the births and share information about the species.
