The Korean National Police Agency convened an emergency meeting shortly after a stabbing rampage broke out in Incheon on Tuesday. The Ministry of Justice said it would launch a broad investigation into the country's electronic ankle bracelet system.

Acting Korean National Police Agency Commissioner General Kim Jong-cheol was briefed on the incident and called an emergency command meeting, then held a nationwide video conference with provincial and metropolitan police chiefs at 5:30 p.m.

Kim received a briefing from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency chief on the details of the case and the steps taken in the investigation, and ordered officers to conduct a swift and thorough probe — including into the motive — while ensuring full protection and support for the victims.

The Ministry of Justice also said in a statement Tuesday that it would investigate the electronic ankle bracelet system as a whole.
