New name secured 58.78% of votes among six candidates at general assembly
The apartment complex being built through the reconstruction of sections 1, 2 and 4 of the Banpo Jugong 1 complex in Seocho-gu, Seoul, has been officially renamed "Dieh Banpo124."
The reconstruction association for sections 1, 2 and 4 of the Banpo Jugong 1 complex said it voted at a general assembly Friday to replace the previous name, "Dieh Classt," with "Dieh Banpo124," chosen from a field of six candidates.
The new name combines "THE H," Hyundai Engineering & Construction's premium residential brand, with "Banpo," one of South Korea's most prestigious residential addresses, and the number "124," which reflects the historical identity of sections 1, 2 and 4 of the original Banpo Jugong 1 complex. The name secured 58.78% of votes at the assembly.
Some association members had long raised concerns about the feel and local symbolism of the name "Dieh Classt." With a public pre-sale approaching, calls grew to strengthen the complex's brand competitiveness, name recognition and regional identity, prompting the association to gather member input before putting the matter to a vote at the general assembly.
Association Chairman Kim Tae-ho said the apartment name "is an important symbol that will represent our complex for decades and influence residents' pride and asset value." He said that while members had held differing views on the name, the democratic process of the general assembly had produced a final decision, and he hoped it would serve as an opportunity for unity. "What matters now is not the debate over the name but creating the finest quality, prestige and asset value worthy of it," Kim said. "Under the new name Dieh Banpo124, it is most important that all members come together with one mind to complete South Korea's greatest apartment complex."
Dieh Banpo124 is a large-scale reconstruction project comprising 5,007 units, with Hyundai Engineering & Construction serving as the contractor. Situated along the Han River, the complex is planned as a high-end residential development featuring differentiated architectural design, premium finishes, specialized landscaping and large-scale community facilities.
The association said it is focused on delivering a living environment that goes beyond a conventional luxury apartment, taking into account residents' quality of life, residential satisfaction and long-term asset value. Plans call for large water features, nature-friendly landscaping, distinctive exterior design and a community facility spanning approximately 75,900 square meters.
"Our complex has ample competitiveness to represent South Korea in terms of location, scale, brand, landscaping and community," Kim said. "We will further strengthen quality and safety management during the remaining construction period and do our utmost to keep the move-in schedule on track."
The association is targeting move-in by the end of 2027 and said it is focused on raising the overall quality of the project ahead of the public pre-sale.
