South Chungcheong Province receives 100 million won designated donation from Aekyung Industrial on Tuesday, bringing total contributions to 300 million won since 2023
South Chungcheong Province has received a designated donation of 100 million won ($74,700) from Aekyung Industrial to support youth preparing for independent living. The contribution follows a support agreement the company signed with the province in 2023, under which Aekyung Industrial has donated 100 million won annually from 2024 through this year, for a total of 300 million won.
The province held a donation ceremony Tuesday at the provincial government building's guest reception room, attended by Governor Park Soo-hyun, Aekyung Industrial CEO Kim Sang-jun, Production Division Head Park Hong-yeol, Community Chest of Korea South Chungcheong Secretary General Yoo Byeong-seol, South Chungcheong Saemaul Association Chairman Seong Nak-gu and Bodum Nanum Volunteer Corps Representative Jang Ji-yeong.
The province plans to use this year's donation to improve the residential environments of 100 youth preparing for independent living and to provide them with daily necessities.
For residential improvements, the province will support wallpaper and flooring replacements as well as repairs to aging fixtures, carrying out the project in partnership with local saemaul volunteer associations.
For daily necessities, the province will work with the Bodum Nanum Volunteer Corps to provide a "fresh start kit" containing items such as a microwave oven, frying pan, tableware, airtight containers, a multipurpose tool set and a first-aid kit.
In the first year of the project in 2024, Aekyung Industrial provided 200 youth preparing for independent living with starter household goods worth 500,000 won per person. Last year, the company supported a healing camp for 100 participants, including youth on the verge of leaving care.
"A stable place to live and the everyday items they need will serve as a solid foundation for young people who are stepping out on their own after leaving care," Governor Park said. "I am deeply grateful to Aekyung Industrial for its unwavering support for South Chungcheong Province's youth over the past three years."
Park added that the province would carefully look after the support needed to help youth preparing for independent living settle stably within their communities and pursue their dreams.
Meanwhile, Aekyung Industrial, a lifestyle and beauty company founded in 1985, has been at the forefront of spreading a culture of giving through a range of corporate social responsibility activities, including providing goods to vulnerable groups, offering emergency support to disaster-affected areas and funding dental care for children.
