Three workers were taken to a hospital after inhaling leaked gas at a foreign-owned chemical factory in the Yeosu National Industrial Complex.

The incident occurred Monday at around 1:47 p.m. at a foreign-owned company within the complex that produces carbon black for rubber products. Three workers, including an employee in his 30s, inhaled tail gas — a flammable byproduct — that escaped while they were replacing valve components.

All three, employed by the primary contractor, complained of difficulty breathing and dizziness. They were transported by ambulance to St. Carollo Hospital in nearby Suncheon, where they are receiving treatment.

Fire department officials are investigating factory personnel to determine whether safety regulations were followed and to identify the cause of the accident.
