Composer and broadcaster Don Spike, 49, whose real name is Kim Min-su, has shared news of a lottery win.
Don Spike posted a photo on Instagram on Sunday verifying his lottery ticket win, captioning it "jackpot moment."
According to the photo, Don Spike matched four numbers in the Saturday draw, landing a fourth-place prize of 50,000 won ($37). While the sum is modest, he appeared delighted by the unexpected stroke of luck.
Don Spike was arrested on suspicion of possessing and using methamphetamine at a hotel in Gangnam, Seoul, on Sept. 26, 2022. About 30 grams of the drug — enough for roughly 666 doses — were found at the scene.
He was indicted on charges of purchasing narcotics nine times for a total of 45 million won between late 2021 and 2022, using them on 14 occasions and passing them to others seven times.
A first-instance court sentenced him to three years in prison, suspended for five years, but an appeals court handed down a two-year prison term. The court also ordered the forfeiture of about 39 million won and 80 hours of drug addiction rehabilitation.
Don Spike appealed to the Supreme Court, which dismissed the appeal in September 2023, making the sentence final.
After completing his sentence, Don Spike was released in March last year and last month opened a restaurant under his name in Gampo, a coastal area in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province.
At the time, he said he had spent his time "reflecting on the mistakes I made four years ago and looking back on the life I had lived," adding that it had been "a precious time to resolve how to live the rest of my life so as not to repeat the same wrongs."
He added that "with the help of good people, I am preparing for a new beginning at the beautiful seaside of Gampo in Gyeongju," and pledged to "do my best not to disappoint the expectations and support of so many people."
