Cleaning, laundry and tidying visits twice a month
Service aims to ease domestic burden and free up time for childcare
Ulsan has launched a housekeeping support service for families with five or more children under the age of 18, aimed at reducing parents' domestic workload and giving them more time to spend with their children, the city announced Monday.
The service provides three hours of assistance per visit, available twice a month. The cost per session is 62,000 won ($46). Families wishing to apply can check their eligibility and register at the community administrative welfare center in their neighborhood. Under the program, households select a housekeeping provider themselves, pay for the service by bank transfer or card, and then submit receipts to the welfare center for reimbursement.
According to Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS) data from the end of 2025, Ulsan has 104,614 households with minor children. Broken down by number of children: one child, 47,684 households; two children, 49,123; three children, 7,289; four children, 455; and five or more children, 63. To support the last group, Ulsan has secured a budget of 48 million won this year to run the housekeeping service as a pilot project.
Inquiries can be directed to the Ulsan Welfare Policy Division at 229-3436, Jung-gu Family Welfare Division at 290-4904, Nam-gu Women and Family Division at 226-6946, Dong-gu Children and Family Division at 209-3914, Buk-gu Family Policy Division at 241-7674, or Ulju-gun Women and Family Division at 204-1029.
"This housekeeping support service is designed to help parents and children in large families spend more time together," a city official said. "We are also spreading the word through neighborhood administrative welfare centers, and we hope every eligible household takes advantage of it."
