The Gangnam-gu Council took part in the 23rd Gangnam International Peace Marathon on Monday, running alongside residents through Gangnam-gu and along the Han River.

The event, co-hosted by Gangnam-gu and the US Army's 8th Army Command and organized by the Gangnam-gu Sports Council, drew about 10,000 participants. Council Speaker Lee Jae-jin, Deputy Speaker Kim Hyeon-jeong, Operations Committee Chair Kang Hyeon-seop, Administrative Safety Committee Chair Lee In-seon, Economic and Urban Committee Chair Song Yeong-gwang, Welfare and Culture Committee Chair Oh On-nuri, and council members Bok Jin-gyeong, Lee Dong-ho, Lee Sang-ae, Kim Jin-gyeong, Woo Jong-hyeok, Park Dae-yong, Kim Yun-hui, Han Seong-sun, Lee Jong-won (District Na), Kim Yeong-min, Yeom Hui-ok, Lee Jong-won (District Ma), Go Eun-jin, Yun Su-hyeok, Bae Geun-hui, Eun Myeong-ju and No Mi-jin all participated.

The council members cheered on fellow participants while also running the course themselves, reflecting on the values of health and peace.

The event drew about 10,000 participants in total, including Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyeon-gi, actor Park Sang-won — co-chair of the Gangnam Festival organizing committee — and other guests. Courses included a full marathon, a half marathon, a 10-kilometer run and a 5-kilometer run. Participants set off from the former Seoul Medical Center intersection and ran along the Han River, taking in views of Gangnam's urban landscape and the riverfront.

Alongside the marathon, a Global Master Chef Food Festival was held along Bongeunsa-ro, stretching from Bongeunsa Station to the Samseong 1-dong community center. Restaurants from across Gangnam-gu offered a wide variety of international dishes — including burgers, lamb galbi and sushi — at affordable prices, drawing an enthusiastic response from participants and residents alike.

He added that the Gangnam-gu Council would spare no effort in supporting community sports and local cultural programs so that residents can enjoy a healthy daily life and have easy access to diverse cultural experiences and food.
