Daytime puppet show, outdoor kids cafe also on offer

The Seoul Metropolitan Government will host an autumn festival called "Yulhyeon, Singing an Autumn Night" at Yulhyeon Park in Gangnam-gu.

According to the city government, the festival on Oct. 17 will kick off at 6 p.m. with a magic show, followed by performances spanning pop opera, fusion traditional Korean music, folk pop and trot music.

Before the performances begin, a book rest area will be open for visitors to relax. Hands-on programs — including flower frame and transparent bookmark making — will be available, along with a hand puppet show titled "Ddong Dwaeji Wangbanggu." The Yulhyeon Park book rest area is a multipurpose space the city created to expand reading and relaxation facilities within the park. The single-story structure covers 329.87 square meters and holds about 3,525 books. It regularly offers hands-on programs such as garden making and terrarium building.

On the lawn plaza, an outdoor kids cafe under the city's "Yeogiyeogi Seoul-type Kids Cafe" program will run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Activities — including air bounce, sports bounce, swing sets, sand and block play, crafts and recreational games — are organized around an Olympics theme. Children ages 4 to 9 may participate with a guardian, and a separate rest area will be provided for accompanying adults.

All performances and activities are free. The puppet show at the book rest area requires advance reservations through the Seoul Public Service Reservation website; any remaining seats will be available on a walk-in basis on the day. Further details can be found on the Seoul Parks website.

Park Cheol-su, director of the Eastern District Park and Leisure Center, said he hoped visitors would "enjoy the feel of autumn and spend precious time with family, friends and neighbors" at the event.
