Jungnang-gu held the "30th Respect for the Elderly Month Ceremony and Senior Talent Competition" on Tuesday at the below-ground auditorium of the Jungnang-gu District Office, drawing more than 500 senior residents.
At the event, 21 individuals who contributed to improving senior welfare and community development received commendations. Seven teams then took the stage for a talent competition featuring Gyeonggi folk songs, dance, spoon percussion, ocarina and other performances.
Celebrations for Respect for the Elderly Month are set to continue throughout October, with senior appreciation events planned across all 16 dong in the district.
"It is meaningful to have created a space where we can reflect on the lives of our elders and express our gratitude during Respect for the Elderly Month," District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi said. "We will continue to carefully attend to the everyday needs and welfare support our seniors require to enjoy a healthy and vibrant retirement."
