Korea Digital Asset (KODA) announced Thursday it has signed a partnership with global staking infrastructure firm Figment. The collaboration allows KODA's institutional clients to participate in Ethereum (ETH) staking and earn additional rewards on their holdings while maintaining their existing custody and asset management frameworks.

Staking involves depositing digital assets into a blockchain network to take part in transaction validation and other network operations — without selling the assets — in exchange for rewards. KODA plans to link asset custody with staking to offer services aligned with the internal control and compliance standards of its institutional clients.

Corporations pursuing a Digital Asset Treasury (DAT) strategy are also seen as a key target segment. KODA said it will support staking for such entities in line with their asset-holding objectives and internal operating standards.

Figment provides staking infrastructure across more than 30 blockchain networks and serves more than 1,500 institutional clients, including asset managers, exchanges and custodians. The firm also has safeguards against "slashing" — the reduction of staked assets that can occur due to validator errors during network operations.

"We will support corporations holding digital assets through a DAT strategy to go beyond simple custody, participate in staking securely and earn additional rewards," said KODA Chief Executive Cho Jin-seok.

Eva Lawrence, Figment's head of sales, said the partnership "provides a way for Korean institutions to earn staking rewards while maintaining the custody framework they trust." She added that the firm would focus on delivering staking infrastructure that meets market standards as institutional demand in Korea grows.

Meanwhile, KODA is a domestic digital asset custody firm jointly established in 2020 by KB Kookmin Bank, Hashed and Haechi Labs. Earlier this year, KODA obtained SOC1 Type 2 certification from Samil PwC for its digital asset custody service.
