A centerpiece of the 'Wangsanno Street of Light' project, the media facade content earned top prize — part of a broader effort to enhance nighttime scenery from Sinseoldong Station to Cheongnyangni Station and connect traditional markets through illuminated public space.
Dongdaemun-gu said Wednesday that media content displayed on the plaza installation at Cheongnyangni Station won the top prize in the media facade content category at the 15th Seoul Good Light Awards.
The Seoul Good Light Awards recognize lighting facilities and technology that use artificial illumination to improve the city's nighttime environment, prevent light pollution and enhance residents' quality of life. This year's competition selected nine winning works across four categories: academic research, design, construction and media facade content.
The media facade content category evaluates how harmoniously video content blends with its architectural surroundings and assesses overall artistic merit, public value and originality. Dongdaemun-gu took the top prize in the category for the media content it unveiled at Cheongnyangni Station Plaza.
The Wangsanno Street of Light project was launched to improve the nighttime landscape along Wangsanno between Sinseoldong Station and Cheongnyangni Station. It focused on adding light to streets connecting major traditional markets — including Seoul Yangnyeong Market, Gyeongdong Market and Cheongnyangni Traditional Market — and on highlighting the area's distinct local character.
The media installation at Cheongnyangni Station Plaza serves as the centerpiece of the project. It was designed as a space where residents passing along Wangsanno can pause to enjoy video content as part of their daily lives. The installation provides visual attractions around the station while blending with the surrounding urban landscape.
Building on the recognition, the district plans to promote the vision and achievements of the Wangsanno Street of Light project and work to identify and develop local tourism assets that residents and visitors can enjoy on foot.
"This award recognizes the quality of the nighttime landscape created along Wangsanno and gives us an opportunity to share the project's purpose and results with a wider audience," Dongdaemun-gu District Mayor Choi Dong-min said. "We will do our best to discover and develop tourism destinations in Dongdaemun-gu that people will want to visit, enjoy and explore on foot."
