A Suncheon civic group has called on Mayor Son Hun-mo to publicly release a concrete action plan for the policy proposals he pledged to citizens during the June 3 local elections, as he marks 100 days in office in his first term.

Ahead of the ninth nationwide simultaneous local elections, the group — Sahoedaegaehyeok Suncheon Citizens Action — formed a civic voter campaign body to let residents directly propose local policies and hold candidates accountable for their responses and commitments.

On May 20, ahead of election day on June 3, the group held a "policy election pledge ceremony" at which mayoral candidates committed to fulfilling citizen-proposed policies. Son submitted an official written response at the time, the group said.

"The policy agreement made between citizens and candidates during the election does not end when the election is over," a representative of the group said. "It must continue as a process in which the mayor explains to citizens how those pledges are being realized in actual governance after taking office, and is held accountable."

The group has formally requested that Son provide a written update on progress made so far on the citizen policy proposals, along with a forward-looking action plan, by Oct. 14.

Based on the response, the group plans to hold a forum and seminar with citizens on the theme of evaluating Mayor Son's first 100 days in office and the tasks ahead.
