The production team behind MBC's variety program "I Live Alone" has responded to allegations that scenes featuring actor Kim Min's life in an old house were staged.
On Wednesday, the show's producers told Ilgan Sports that the housing shown in the broadcast is Kim Min's actual residence and that no separate preparations or staged situations were arranged for filming. "The house introduced on the program is truly where Kim Min lives, and there was absolutely nothing the production team set up or staged separately for the cameras," they said.
They also addressed questions about the generator seen in the episode, saying the house had no electricity to begin with and that Kim Min genuinely uses the generator as a result.
Kim Min appeared on the Friday episode, sharing his daily life at an old house in Dongducheon, Gyeonggi Province. The broadcast showed him operating a generator to power the home and patching worn floors with cement.
After the episode aired, some online communities raised doubts about whether the space had been dressed up before filming, pointing to differences between the yard shown on the program and street-view images from a map service. Questions also emerged about why a generator was being used when utility poles and power lines were visible near the house.
In response, Kim Min told Maeil Business Newspaper's Star Today on Tuesday that "there really is no manipulation or staging." He explained that the house had no electricity supply even before he moved in.
He said the house holds memories of close friends he considers family, and that he is living there while gradually making repairs himself, preserving those memories as he goes.
