Accident occurs on residential side street in Eunpyeong-gu
A teenage motorcyclist was critically injured after a taxi driven by a man in his 70s struck his motorcycle at a residential intersection in Seoul.
According to the Seoul Western Police Station, police have booked the taxi driver, identified only as A, on charges of causing bodily injury under the Special Act on the Processing of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the case.
A is accused of colliding with a motorcycle ridden by a teenage male while driving through a residential intersection near Saejeolyeok Station in Eunpyeong-gu at around 2 a.m. Monday.
The intersection is on a residential side street with no traffic signals or lane markings, according to police.
Firefighters who responded to the scene rescued the teenager, identified as B, who was in cardiac arrest, and transported him to a nearby hospital. B later regained a pulse but remained in critical condition.
A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident.
Police plan to analyze footage from nearby closed-circuit television cameras and vehicle dashcams to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, including how each vehicle entered the intersection and at what speed, and to assess fault.
