Actor Kim Bo-sung has once again addressed a past controversy over his military exemption, this time publicly showing his disability welfare card certifying a Grade 6 visual impairment.
On Monday, a video titled "The story of Kim Bo-sung written on Namu Wiki — we asked him directly" was uploaded to his YouTube channel.
In the video, Kim reviewed his own profile on Namu Wiki, a crowd-sourced online information site.
Looking at the entry on his military exemption, Kim said, "I was exempted from military service due to a Grade 6 visual impairment, and there was controversy over this at the time."
"Because I looked physically fine on the outside, I received a lot of misunderstanding about why I wasn't enlisting," he said. Kim added that the misunderstanding was cleared up after he publicly disclosed on a broadcast that his eyesight prevented him from serving.
He went on to say that his vision worsened further when he suffered an orbital fracture while practicing martial arts. "Viewers learned once more that I cannot see out of my left eye, and I think most people are aware of it now," he said.
Kim married a non-celebrity seven years his junior in 1998 and is the father of two sons.
