MyGummy and Mitz also gain popularity amid consumer recipe craze
Orion said Tuesday that several of its longtime bestsellers have seen a surge in popularity, driven by the "matkku" (flavor customization) trend in which consumers create their own recipes using store-bought snacks.
According to Orion, sales of its Choco Chip Cookie rose about 30 percent in the January–August period compared with the same period last year, as a recipe calling for soaking the cookies in milk went viral. Its MyGummy product also drew widespread attention after a video showing the gummies soaked in carbonated drinks and then frozen racked up more than 4 million views.
Mitz has similarly gained traction, with growing numbers of consumers eating it soaked in milk or sprinkled over yogurt and ice cream. The trend prompted Orion to launch a new product, Oh! Granola Mitz S'more.
"The trend of reforming textures in creative ways is spreading among younger consumers," an Orion official said. "We expect products that lend themselves well to flavor customization to remain popular."
