Fire department officials and medical staff airlift a pregnant woman at 25 weeks — whose condition could not be treated in Jeju — to a hospital in Busan on Monday. [Jeju Fire Safety Headquarters]

A pregnant woman receiving care at a hospital in Jeju was airlifted to a hospital in another region by fire department helicopter.

According to the Jeju Island Fire Safety Headquarters on Tuesday, a report was received Monday at around 1:45 p.m. from Jeju National University Hospital that a woman in her 30s, identified only as A, who was 25 weeks pregnant, required transfer to a higher-level hospital in another region due to premature rupture of membranes.

Fire authorities dispatched the helicopter Hallamese to transport A to a university hospital in Yangsan, Busan.

After the receiving hospital was confirmed, Hallamese took off from Jeju Airport at 4:29 p.m. and landed at Jeju National University Hospital at 4:37 p.m. to pick up the patient. The helicopter then departed and arrived at the Busan hospital at 5:58 p.m., where the patient was handed over to medical staff.
