A man in his 70s died after falling from a cliff near Sinseondae in the Geumgangsan area of Goseong-gun, Gangwon Province, while trying to take a photograph.

The victim, identified only as A, 71, fell more than 40 meters Saturday afternoon near Wonam-ri, Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, according to Yonhap.

He was airlifted in cardiac arrest to a hospital in Sokcho but was pronounced dead on arrival.

A had been hiking alone and is believed to have slipped and fallen while attempting to photograph Ulsan Rock in the background.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident based on witness accounts.

Sinseondae is a well-known vantage point offering a sweeping view of Ulsan Rock. The ridge trail in particular draws many hikers and visitors who come specifically to photograph the landmark.
