"Why wouldn't you invest in stocks through a bank account?"

At 4 p.m. Saturday, a couple stopped at the Hana Financial Group booth at the Herald Money Festa 2026, drawn in by a prize spinner on display.

They had come after hearing that signing up for Hana Bank's new "Modu Da Hana" account — meaning "All-in-One Hana" — would enter them in a spin for prizes ranging from stuffed animals to portable battery packs and keyboard keycaps.

After a Hana Financial employee walked them through the product, the couple signed up on the spot by scanning a QR code.

"We came for the freebies, but the product turned out to be better than we expected," they said. "The interest rate is decent, and since you can invest in stocks directly through the bank account, we might give IPO subscriptions a try."

The Modu Da Hana account is a demand-deposit account offering up to 2.5 percent interest per year. Customers can invest in stocks and overseas bonds through the account without transferring funds to a separate brokerage account.

Visitors continued to stream into the Hana Financial booth throughout the afternoon for a chance at the prizes. A foot-stepper station — where stepping raised a score on a display — also drew attention from passersby.

Earlier that morning, middle-aged visitors lined up for consultations on Hana Life Insurance's "Hana The Next Naezip Pension" reverse mortgage product.

The product is a loan designed for customers aged 55 or older who own a home with a publicly assessed value exceeding 1.2 billion won ($883,000), allowing them to use the property as collateral in exchange for monthly retirement living funds.

"Interest in reverse mortgages has been growing, especially among people in their 50s and 60s, and the home pension product is a prime example," a Hana Financial official said. "Quite a few visitors also asked about tax-saving strategies beyond individual retirement pension accounts."

Now in its third year, the Herald Money Festa ran Friday and Saturday at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza Art Hall 1 in Seoul under the theme "Money Rebalancing: Recalibrating the Weight of Assets." More than 30 companies, including commercial banks and construction companies, took part to introduce their flagship products and services.
