Seocho-gu in Seoul announced it will pilot a free dining support program called "A Meal Shared With Love" from October through December, in partnership with the Seocho-gu chapter of the Korea Food Service Industry Association. The three-month initiative will provide 14 low-income households with free restaurant meals.

The program is a public-private partnership driven by the voluntary participation of 14 local restaurants. Going beyond simply providing free meals, it pairs each participating eatery with a low-income household in a one-to-one "family bond," creating an ongoing relationship between the restaurant and the family it supports.

Households selected for the program will receive vouchers and then contact their matched restaurant directly to make a reservation. Through monthly shared meals, the initiative aims to foster a sense of community in which neighbors look out for one another like family.

The district will support participating restaurants by providing a "Meal Sharing Practice Establishment" designation sticker and producing a signboard under the "Seocho Warm Table" brand. Hygiene consulting services will also be offered to help raise the overall quality and safety of the local dining environment.

District Mayor Jeon Seong-su said he was grateful that the local food service industry's voluntary participation was making it possible to put the value of sharing a warm meal into practice. "After this year's pilot, we will continue to expand the program so that more neighbors can join the warm table next year," he said.
