Continuing partnership with local community
Investment, jobs and talent development to expand regional cooperation
'Will lend strength to North Chungcheong's new leap forward'
Hyundai Group Chair Hyun Jung-eun has been reappointed honorary governor of North Chungcheong Province.
Hyundai Group said Friday that Hyun received the honorary governor plaque from North Chungcheong Province Governor Shin Yong-han at a ceremony at Banyan Tree Club & Spa Seoul in Jung-gu.
The honorary governor system designates prominent figures who have contributed to regional development and invites them to participate in policy advisory and other provincial support activities. Hyun was first appointed to the role in 2020 and has been reappointed continuously since.
The latest appointment is expected to deepen the cooperative relationship between Hyundai Group and the provincial administration — which launched its ninth elected-term government in July — and broaden the scope of their shared regional development efforts.
Hyun's ties with North Chungcheong Province began in 2019, when flagship affiliate Hyundai Elevator decided to relocate its headquarters and production facilities to Chungju.
The Hyundai Elevator Chungju Smart Campus, which opened in 2022, spans 172,759 square meters and serves as a core production hub housing the company's headquarters, research and development center and smart factory.
Last year, the campus added the Hyundai Asan Tower — a 250-meter ultra-high-rise elevator test tower — completing a Chungju-centered business base covering everything from production to research and development.
The company has also expanded its community engagement across areas including talent development and employment.
Hyundai Elevator founded the Oreurak disability choir and continues community-focused social contribution work — including employment programs for people with disabilities, scholarships and support for vulnerable groups — while running a school-industry linked curriculum with Chungju Technical High School to nurture local talent.
Last year, the company donated proceeds from its in-house disability-run cafe, Ellis, to the North Chungcheong Province Disability Welfare Center, further expanding community initiatives that support the independence of people with disabilities.
"I find it deeply meaningful that the relationship between North Chungcheong Province and Hyundai Group has grown into a journey of shared progress with the local community," Hyun said. "We will continue to build on this cooperative spirit and lend our strength to North Chungcheong's bold leap toward the future."
North Chungcheong Province Governor Shin Yong-han said the philosophy Hyun has championed — "act preemptively and challenge boldly" — aligns with the spirit behind North Chungcheong's vision of transformation and practical governance. "I hope you will serve as a steadfast guidepost as North Chungcheong forges ahead in pioneering future advanced industries, including semiconductors, secondary batteries and biotech," he said.
Meanwhile, Hyun has been actively expanding employee welfare initiatives, including delivering health-boosting gifts of samgyetang and beef to 6,590 employees this past summer to promote their wellbeing, communication and working conditions.
Under Hyun's direction, Hyundai Group created H.Harmony, a multipurpose lounge space designed to foster natural communication and interaction among employees across group affiliates. Last year, the company also renovated its in-house maternity rest and recovery room for female employees.
