The People Power Party said it has appointed Han Gyu-seong as organizational committee chair for the Suncheon, Gwangyang, Gokseong and Gurye-gap district, a post left vacant after former regional chairs Cheon Ha-ram and Kim Hyeong-seok departed.

The PPP has long struggled to field candidates in South Jeolla Province. Former Saenuri Party leader Lee Jeong-hyeon once held a constituency seat there through two terms, but the party's local standing eroded after Cheon Ha-ram left to join the Reform Party and former Vice Minister Kim Hyeong-seok relocated his constituency to Seoul.

The party formally approved the appointment Thursday, along with 17 others nationwide, after a review by its special committee on organizational strengthening, with Han emerging as the sole candidate for the Suncheon seat.

Han has publicly claimed that the June 3 presidential and local elections were fraudulent and has called for a re-run. He has also participated in rallies opposing the impeachment of Yoon Suk Yeol, drawing attention for his far-right political stance.
