KG Mobility (KGM) sold a total of 8,863 units in September, including 2,100 in the domestic market and 6,763 through exports, the company announced Thursday.

Despite the increase in export volume, overall sales fell 2.0 percent from the same month last year as domestic demand softened due to the depletion of electric vehicle subsidies. On a month-on-month basis, however, sales rose 29.5 percent, signaling a recovery.

Exports were particularly strong, rising 3.5 percent year-on-year as shipments to Turkey, Germany and Hungary increased. The monthly export tally surpassed 6,000 units for the third consecutive month — the first time since June last year, when KGM exported 8,345 units — and cumulative export figures also trended upward.

By model, the Torres EVX (1,930 units) and Musso EV (1,117 units) led electric vehicle sales, while the Musso (1,597 units) also exceeded 1,000 units, collectively driving the overall uptick.

To sustain the export momentum, KGM has been accelerating its push into new markets — entering Myanmar in August and launching a knockdown assembly project in Ethiopia in September.

On the domestic front, the company has also been strengthening its market presence through sponsorship of the 2026 Run Seoul Run marathon, expanding customer touchpoints and offering a range of financing and purchase incentives.

"Driven by the increase in export volume, sales recovered from the previous month," a KGM official said. "We plan to continue growing sales by intensifying our push into emerging markets through knockdown projects and other initiatives, while also strengthening our domestic market response through diverse financing and purchase benefits."

Meanwhile, on Wednesday KGM joined the Max Alliance (Max), a Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy-led initiative, signing an MOU with companies and institutions in the AI future mobility sector, including Hyundai Mobis, RideFlux, the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, the Korea Intelligent Automotive Parts Promotion Institute, the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology (KEIT) and the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology.

Max is an industry-academia-research-government cooperative framework designed to help South Korea's manufacturing sector overcome structural challenges and emerge as a global leader in AI transformation for manufacturing. The initiative is organized into 11 working groups spanning major manufacturing value chains.

Through their participation in Max, KGM and other companies and institutions in the AI future mobility group will carry out government-designated research projects under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, building an integrated cooperation framework covering everything from technology development to demonstration.
