Trinity Airways is launching a service that lets travelers buy an eSIM for overseas data use at the same time they book their flight tickets, eliminating the need to visit a separate eSIM retailer and select a plan suited to their destination and travel period.

Trinity Airways said Thursday it is the first Korean carrier to offer simultaneous eSIM purchase during the flight-booking process.

An eSIM allows users to download carrier information directly onto a smartphone without swapping a physical SIM card, giving them access to local data networks abroad. The technology removes the need to buy a local SIM card or rent a portable Wi-Fi device when traveling overseas.

Through the new service, customers booking flights on the Trinity Airways website can select an eSIM plan for their destination at the same time. The airline said the move cuts out the separate step of visiting an eSIM sales site, comparing plans and completing a second purchase after paying for a ticket.

The purchased eSIM is issued automatically one day before departure, so travelers do not need to track a separate activation date — the plan becomes ready to use in line with their departure schedule.

Trinity Airways has been broadening its ancillary service lineup, having already added travel insurance to the booking process and now extending that to eSIMs. The airline aims to let passengers arrange everything they need before departure in one place.

The move is part of Trinity Airways' "SSC" — selective service carrier — strategy, which it unveiled alongside its rebranding. Under the SSC model, the airline offers passengers a menu of services tailored to their route and travel purpose rather than bundling everything into a single fare. Trinity Airways began operating under its new brand on Sept. 10, when it changed its name from T'way Air.

To mark the launch, Trinity Airways is offering a 20 percent discount on eSIM prices for customers who purchase a flight and eSIM together from Thursday through Oct. 30.

"The eSIM service is a first step toward making travel preparation more convenient, allowing customers to complete everything from flight booking to data setup in one go," a Trinity Airways official said. "We will continue to expand customer-friendly services as an SSC carrier so that the entire journey — from booking to departure — becomes more seamless."

Meanwhile, Trinity Airways has also been stepping up its response to international carbon regulations, recently signing an MOU with NH Investment & Securities on cooperation related to the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation and emissions trading systems.
