Actor Ko So-young, now 16 years into her marriage to actor Jang Dong-gun, has revealed that the two share virtually nothing in common — from tastes to personality. She added, however, that the couple makes their marriage work by continually adjusting to each other.
Ko made the remarks Tuesday in a video posted to her YouTube channel, where she was seen shopping and dining with her sister-in-law and opened up about her married life with Jang.
When the production crew asked Ko what tastes she and Jang share, she paused before answering, "Not much," adding that gopchang — grilled beef intestines — was about the only food they both enjoy.
"We have different hobbies and different personalities, and I found that attractive at first," Ko said. "But living together, I realized our MBTI types are completely opposite across all four categories. I'm an ENTJ and he's an ISFP. We don't match at all."
Her sister-in-law responded, "But somehow the two of you go together really well."
Ko replied, "We just make it work by meeting each other halfway," offering that as the secret to keeping their marriage going.
Ko also said their contrasting tastes show up at the noraebang.
She praised her father-in-law, saying, "He is a genuinely great singer — good enough to put out an album."
Ko said she herself is not much of a singer but tends to pick upbeat songs and dance along regardless.
Jang, she said, is the complete opposite. "My husband sings quiet, mellow songs like 'The Story of a Couple in Their 60s,'" she said. "I end up yawning and saying, 'Let's go home. Please, let's just go.'" The remark drew laughter.
Ko and Jang married in 2010 and have a son and a daughter together.
