Three top partners honored; field management know-how shared

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction's construction division has joined forces with the heads of its key partner companies to share safety and health policies and strengthen cooperation in preventing serious workplace accidents.

The construction division said Wednesday it hosted the "2026 Partner Company CEO Safety and Health Forum," inviting the CEOs of 30 major partner firms to its Namyeong office in Seoul.

The forum was organized to share HJ Shipbuilding & Construction's safety and health policies and key priorities with its partners and to reinforce on-site safety management systems.

The first session opened with remarks from HJ Shipbuilding & Construction CEO Song Kyung-han, followed by a presentation by Kwon Tae-sung, head of the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office, on government safety and health policies and industrial safety trends. Three partner companies recognized for outstanding safety management and performance received trophies and cash awards.

The second session featured the Korea Industrial Safety Mutual Aid Foundation outlining its industrial safety and health support programs for partner firms. HJ Shipbuilding & Construction's construction safety and health management division introduced the company's key safety priorities and partner support measures. The top-rated partner company also presented a case study of its on-site safety and health activities.

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction distributed to attending partners a question-and-answer guide on the Serious Accidents Punishment Act containing official government legal interpretations, along with 36 types of construction equipment checklists.

The company is also stepping up on-site safety management. Starting this month, it has rolled out an AI-powered real-time interpretation program across its construction sites nationwide to reduce communication barriers with foreign workers. The measure aims to improve foreign workers' comprehension during pre-work safety briefings and safety education sessions.

In the second half of the year, the company is running a safety campaign under the slogan "Return to Zero, Start with Safety," targeting recurring accidents such as falls and structural collapses.

"The safety of our partners is our competitive edge and a non-negotiable top priority," CEO Song said. "We will build a safe and healthy workplace together with our partners through communication and support, not one-sided management."

Meanwhile, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has been expanding its project portfolio with a string of civil engineering and large-scale construction contract wins, including the third section of the Jecheon–Yeongwol Expressway, the third exhibition hall at Busan's Bexco convention center, and the fourth section of the Second Gyeongchun National Highway.
