Shipbuilder secures 44 commercial vessels this year, cumulative order value reaches $7.5 billion
'Proactively meeting global demand across diverse vessel types'
Samsung Heavy Industries said Wednesday it had secured an order for two very large gas carriers from a Bermuda-based shipowner for 307.4 billion won ($226 million). The vessels are scheduled for delivery by February 2030.
The company's commercial vessel orders for this year now stand at 44 ships worth $7.5 billion, reaching 132 percent of its annual commercial vessel order target of $5.7 billion.
In the commercial vessel segment, Samsung Heavy Industries booked 28 ships in the first half of the year, then added 16 more in the second half spanning a range of vessel types — crude oil tankers, container ships, large LNG carriers and very large gas carriers.
This year's order portfolio includes 18 LNG carriers (including one LNG floating storage and regasification unit), two ethane carriers, six gas carriers, four container ships and 14 crude oil tankers.
In the offshore segment, the company secured orders for two floating LNG production and storage units worth $4.4 billion, reaching 54 percent of its annual offshore order target of $8.2 billion.
Combined shipbuilding and offshore orders total 46 vessels worth $11.9 billion, equivalent to 86 percent of the company's full-year target of $13.9 billion.
"We will proactively respond to global customer demand, drawing on our accumulated shipbuilding experience across diverse vessel types and our competitiveness in eco-friendly technology," a Samsung Heavy Industries official said.
