New civil servants beginning their careers at Anyang city government have every reason to feel proud. The city has swept virtually every award among local governments in the country, and its festivals are by far the best in the nation — where residents can even catch Anyang Mayor Choi Dae-ho showing off his dance moves.
Mayor Choi took to social media Monday to mark the appointment ceremony for 120 new public officials, writing that he had met "120 new civil servants who will help shape Anyang's future."
"This year, Anyang ranked first in the civil servant appointment exam cutoff scores across six job categories in Gyeonggi Province," Choi said. "It is all the more meaningful that such talented individuals have become part of the Anyang family through such fierce competition."
He urged the new hires to go beyond listening and observing. "Good governance begins with earning the trust of citizens," he said. "I hope you will be civil servants who go out into the field, experience things firsthand, and keep learning — meeting citizens and growing together with your colleagues."
"You are Anyang's hope, its future and its pride," Choi added. "Congratulations again on your appointment."
