Expert in education administration, finance and accounting
'Will raise sustainability through stable pension fund management'
The Private School Pension Service announced Tuesday that Kim Chang-su has taken office as its 21st chairman. His term runs through Sept. 27, 2029.
Kim holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Chung-Ang University and a doctorate in business administration from Florida International University. He is an expert in education administration as well as finance and accounting. He previously served as a professor and president of Chung-Ang University's business school, chairman of the special committee on college entrance system reform under the National Education Commission, a member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Education, Science and Technology, and a member of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology's university restructuring committee. As an accounting scholar, he also served on the Private School Pension Service's asset management committee and as an outside director at financial institutions.
"I will work to enhance the organization's sustainability through stable pension fund management and member-centered welfare services, and to develop the Private School Pension Service into a specialized institution in pensions, welfare and fund management that grows together with its members," Kim said.
The Private School Pension Service is a public institution established in 1974 to promote the livelihood and welfare of private school staff and their families. It manages a fund of about 33 trillion won ($24.3 billion) across bonds, shares and alternative investments.
Meanwhile, the organization appointed Park Ju-yong, former deputy superintendent of the South Gyeongsang Province Office of Education, as its new standing director for management on Sept. 1. The standing director, who serves a two-year term, oversees the organization's overall management functions, including business strategy, human resources and budgeting. In July, Baek Ju-hyun was appointed as the new chief investment officer to lead fund operations. The organization posted a return of 14.05 percent as of July.
