Choi Su-ho takes bronze in water technology at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai

Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) announced Tuesday that its athlete Choi Su-ho won a bronze medal in the water technology category at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, held in Shanghai, China, from Sept. 22 to 27.

The result marks the second consecutive medal for South Korea in the water technology event, following the country's first-ever bronze in the category at the 2024 competition in Lyon, France.

WorldSkills is the world's largest skills competition, covering six fields: transportation and logistics, manufacturing and engineering technology, creative arts and fashion, construction and building technology, information and communication technology, and social and personal services. Water technology was adopted as an official event in 2019.

Competing as a national team representative, Choi took part in 13 tasks across four areas over four days from Wednesday to Saturday in Shanghai: water treatment process operation and design, water quality analysis, equipment maintenance, and water treatment process configuration, assembly and automated operation.

Combining scores from each task with performance evaluation bonuses, Choi finished tied for third place to claim the bronze. He drew particular praise from the on-site judging panel for his technical precision and polished performance throughout the competition.

"I extend my gratitude and encouragement to our athletes, who have proven South Korea's water treatment capabilities on the world stage by winning medals at two consecutive competitions," K-water President Yun Seok-dae said. "K-water will continue to systematically develop skilled talent in the water sector so that South Korea can lead the global water industry."
