Actor to promote everyday climate action and 'green gains' through public service ads and online content

The Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth announced Tuesday that it has appointed actor Gu Seong-hwan as its "net-zero ambassador."

Gu has won broad public affection through MBC's lifestyle variety program "I Live Alone," where he shares unfiltered glimpses of his daily routine — cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping and connecting with neighbors.

The commission said it chose Gu because his image of finding personal joy and meaning in ordinary days aligns well with its message that carbon neutrality can be achieved through small changes in everyday habits.

In his new role, Gu will take part in the commission's carbon neutrality public service announcements, online content and campaigns, raising awareness of the need to address the climate crisis and encouraging public participation in and attention to carbon-neutral practices in daily life.

A public service advertisement on carbon neutrality set for release in November will follow a day in Gu's life, uncovering one "green gain" at a time in moments that might otherwise go unnoticed.

The ad is intended to convey the message that carbon neutrality does not begin with extraordinary actions, but with gradually changing the everyday choices and habits people already make.

"Starting with myself, I will find and practice what I can do in my daily life, one thing at a time, and do my part to help more people feel that carbon neutrality is something close to them and something they can join in on," Gu said.

Lee Chang-hoon, the commission's civilian co-chair, said that moving toward a carbon-neutral society requires not only efforts from the government and businesses but also active public participation. "I expect that through Gu Seong-hwan's warm and genuine appeal, we will be able to convey more naturally that carbon neutrality is a practice anyone can take part in as part of their daily life," he said.
