100 winners to receive mobile coffee vouchers worth 10,000 won each
Gwangju will run a month-long enrollment campaign for its carbon neutrality points program from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31, aiming to encourage residents to adopt low-carbon habits in their daily lives.
The event is designed to raise awareness of the carbon neutrality points program and boost participation, with a focus on reducing electricity, water and city gas consumption in homes and commercial facilities.
Under the program, participants who cut their electricity, water or city gas usage below the average of the same month over the previous two years receive benefits based on how much they reduce. The system allows residents to earn rewards while contributing to greenhouse gas reduction through everyday energy-saving practices.
Gwangju residents and commercial facility operators who newly enroll in the energy sector of the carbon neutrality points program during October are eligible to take part. New enrollees are automatically entered into the event with no separate application required.
The city plans to select 100 participants through a random draw and award each a mobile coffee voucher worth 10,000 won ($7). Winners will be announced in early November and notified individually, with vouchers to be distributed later that month.
"Carbon neutrality starts not with grand gestures but with small, everyday reductions in energy use," a city official said. "We hope this event encourages more residents to join the carbon neutrality points program and take part in low-carbon living."
Enrollment in the energy sector of Gwangju's carbon neutrality points program has grown steadily, rising from 3,173 households in 2019 to 7,870 as of 2026.
