Construction workers and their families will be able to receive free tax consultations by phone through licensed tax accountants — a service designed for workers who find it difficult to visit a tax accountant in person due to on-site work schedules.

The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association said it will run a free telephone tax consultation service at six regional branches — in Gyeonggi Province, Incheon, Busan, Daegu, Gwangju and Daejeon — from Tuesday through December. The service follows an MOU the association signed with the Korean Tax Accountants Association on Aug. 31.

Eligible users include the association's enrolled members, recipients of retirement mutual aid payments, and their family members or bereaved relatives. Consultations cover tax issues closely tied to daily life, including capital gains tax, inheritance and gift taxes, comprehensive income tax, retirement income tax and year-end tax settlements. Bereaved families filing claims for retirement mutual aid payments after a construction worker's death may also seek advice on related tax matters.

Those wishing to use the service can apply by calling the association's welfare services division. The association will verify eligibility and the applicant's place of residence, then send a text message with the contact information and available consultation hours of the nearest tax accountant. Tax agency work, bookkeeping and preparation of tax filings are not included in the free consultation.

The association plans to review usage and satisfaction rates and expand the service from 2027 by adding in-person consultations alongside the phone-based option.
