Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro's home visited by police over marital dispute, 10 days after wedding

Japanese actor Sakaguchi Kentaro, 35, was reportedly involved in a domestic dispute that prompted a police visit to his home roughly 10 days after he announced his marriage.

Japanese outlet Josei Seven Plus reported Monday that police responded to Sakaguchi's residence in the late hours of Sept. 17 after a call was made to Japan's emergency line, 110.

"It appears an argument between the couple escalated," a police official was quoted as saying. "It was closer to what you would typically call a dispute between partners or spouses. The person who made the call appears to have been Sakaguchi's wife."

Sakaguchi had announced his marriage on Sept. 6 through his paid fan club site, writing that he had wed a woman outside the entertainment industry whom he had been dating. The incident came to light 11 days later.

The outlet said it sought comment from Sakaguchi's agency but received no response.

His wife, who is three years his senior, is a hair and makeup artist known for working with numerous celebrities. The two met on a drama set and began dating, with reports indicating they had been together for more than five years.

Meanwhile, while Sakaguchi was already living with his now-wife, rumors surfaced in 2022 that he had also been dating actor Nagano Mei, who is eight years his junior, drawing speculation about an overlap in relationships.

Sakaguchi gained wider recognition in South Korea through the 2024 Korean-Japanese co-production drama series "After the Love," and that same year served as an honorary tourism ambassador for South Korea appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. He has since appeared in the Netflix Japan drama series "Even After Goodbye" and in the music video for BLACKPINK member Lisa's solo track "Dream."

Sakaguchi is set to star in "kiDnap GAME," a Fuji TV drama series premiering Oct. 6. The series is an international co-production involving Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong, and also features Korean actor Lee Joon-gi. It is a thriller that follows a large-scale kidnapping case unfolding across Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Singapore, Bangkok and Manila.
