Kim Hye-kyung, who accompanied President Lee Jae Myung on his visit to New York for the UN General Assembly, attended the "Fostering the Future Together" coalition luncheon hosted by US first lady Melania Trump on Tuesday (local time).

The coalition was launched by Melania Trump on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly last year, with the goal of supporting children's healthy development in the digital age through education, innovation and technology.

The coalition currently includes the spouses of leaders from more than 50 countries, with global technology companies including Meta, Google and OpenAI serving as partners. South Korea joined the coalition in October last year, following a summit between the two countries.

Welcoming Kim and other leaders' spouses, Melania Trump said, "The future of the world will be determined by what we do for our children today."

Kim thanked Melania Trump for organizing the event and said the coalition had grown rapidly "on the shared belief that advances in digital technology must lead to a better future for our children."

Kim also stressed the need for international cooperation, saying "the challenges of digital transformation cannot be solved by the efforts of any one country alone," and added that South Korea "is making various efforts toward digital education that broadens opportunities for learning while keeping children safe."
