5G-powered work environment to serve 3,000 employees

Hana Financial Group said Monday it has built a "group-wide smart office" using a private 5G network — the first such deployment in the Korean financial sector — in partnership with Samsung Electronics and SK Telecom.

The smart office will be housed at Hana Financial Group's Cheongna headquarters, part of the Hana Financial Town project in Incheon's Cheongna International City. The headquarters joins the group's integrated data center and Hana Global Campus as the third major facility in that development.

Hana Financial TI, a Hana Financial affiliate, oversaw the project. The private 5G network spans all 16 floors of the headquarters building — from the first basement level to the 15th above-ground floor — and can accommodate roughly 3,000 employees from group affiliates.

SK Telecom handled the design and technical support for the private 5G network, integration with the corporate network, and the construction of a security and unified monitoring system. Samsung Electronics supplied core communications equipment and collaborated technically to ensure stable network operations.

Employees at the Cheongna headquarters will be able to choose their workspace freely based on their needs through the 5G-based smart office.

The setup allows project teams to gather in one space and collaborate in real time, while office layouts can be reconfigured flexibly as organizational structures change.

Given that the network handles financial operations, security was a key priority. The group built a dedicated corporate network isolated from external networks and restricted access to authorized users and work devices only, bringing the system into compliance with financial security regulations.

"This 5G private-network smart office is a future-oriented work environment designed to let our employees communicate and collaborate without spatial constraints while fully complying with financial security regulations," said Park Geun-young, chief executive of Hana Financial TI. "We will do our utmost to proactively respond to the expansion of AI and data-driven work, and to accelerate innovation in the way the group works through technology."

Meanwhile, Hana Financial plans to relocate 2,200 employees from its holding company headquarters and 10 affiliates to the Cheongna office by the end of this year.
