Funds to be deposited directly into students' accounts starting this semester; results announced in November

The Construction Workers Mutual Aid Association will award scholarships of 2 million won ($1,470) per person to 150 construction workers or their college-student children, with a total of 300 million won set aside for the program.

The association said Monday it is accepting applications for the "2026 Second-Semester Construction Worker College Student Scholarship" from Monday through Oct. 23.

Eligible applicants are construction workers themselves or their children currently enrolled in a four-year university or two-year college in South Korea. The scholarship is provided as a study-assistance grant.

Applicants must meet requirements related to the construction worker's total accumulated retirement mutual-aid days and recent accumulation days, as well as credit and grade requirements from the student's most recent regular semester.

Recipients will be selected based on a scoring system: 50 points for financial-aid eligibility tier, 50 points for the previous semester's grades, and up to 5 bonus points. Results will be announced in November.

The payment method is also changing. Previously, funds were disbursed through the Korea Student Aid Foundation, but starting this semester the association will deposit the scholarship directly into the student's own bank account.
