A Chinese woman in her 50s has been detained on suspicion of fatally stabbing her mother, a woman in her 70s, at their shared home in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, during the Chuseok holiday.

The Ansan Branch of Suwon District Court issued an arrest warrant Sunday against the suspect, identified only as A, after a pretrial detention hearing on charges of matricide.

The court determined she posed a flight risk.

A is accused of attacking her mother with a knife at a multifamily residence in Sangnok-gu, Ansan, at around 1 a.m. Saturday.

Shortly after the attack, A contacted an acquaintance and indicated she had harmed her mother. Police responded to the acquaintance's report and arrested A at the scene.

The mother was taken to a hospital while receiving CPR but died. Earlier in the investigation, police found that A had consumed about one bottle of soju before the attack.

Both A and the victim held Chinese nationality and had been living together alone at the residence.

According to police, the mother and daughter had frequently clashed over lifestyle habits and similar issues. A has told investigators she acted impulsively during an argument with her mother on the day of the incident.

Police plan to conduct further investigation into the circumstances of the attack and A's specific motive before referring the case to prosecutors.
